Theatre Vanemuine

Theatre Vanemuine is the only theatre in Tartu.

It is the only theatre in Estonia, which is considered to be three genre theatre – here is performed dramas, musicals as well as ballet.

Vanemuise the theater would force shall be deemed to be Lydia Koidula “Saaremaa onupoja” lavastamist game and lauluseltsis “Cinema” 24 June 1870. In [2].

Initially acted as a theater Vanemuise Society’s house, and in 1906. The new elegant Jugend-style buiulding. The house was destroyed during the Second World War and moved to the former theater building in the German theater, now known as the “Vanemuise’s small house”. The destroyed house was rebuilt and opened again in 1967.

During the period of 1966-1991, the theater was called “ENSV State Academic Theater”.

Vanemuise large house is located in the heart of Tartu and can accommodate 700 spectators.

The large house is 1.2 km south-west to theater “Vanemuine”  small house, which has 440 seats.
